The drone industry has, for the past 6-10 years, been one of the fastest growing markets in the world. People everywhere have become enamored with these fantastic flying machines and how they can enrich our lives and make otherwise labor-intensive tasks much easier. One part of the industry that has grown at break-neck speeds is the consumer and prosumer drone market. This group includes anyone who enjoys flying drones for pure fun and recreation as well as those who are starting up small service provider businesses where they offer aerial photography and videography, mapping, thermography, and more.
All of that in-mind, I’m willing to bet that you’re here because you or somebody in your life has come down with a case of the “drone lovers flu” and you are wondering what you might be able to get them for Christmas that will support this new-found hobby and passion. Well, you are in luck! By the time you finish this article, you will have plenty of ideas for what to get for the drone nut in your life this holiday season.
Idea #1: A Drone Geared Towards Beginners
If the drone lover in your life does not already have their own drone, it may be a good idea to get the ball rolling for them and buy it for them this Christmas. While this may sound expensive and possibly daunting when it comes to buying the right drone, I can say with full-confidence that it is not nearly as difficult as it may seem. There are TONS of resources out there that can help guide your decision-making process and weigh-out the pros and cons of each drone geared towards beginners. I have my own article here on the blog that can help you compare the best drones for beginners in 2024 as well as a video on my YouTube channel that will help too!
If you don’t have the time or patience to sift through that content, I’ve included a condensed list of drones I’d recommend buying for beginners that will not break the piggy bank:
- DJI Mini 4K
- DJI Neo (Controller Not Included, Click Here for Controller)
- Autel Evo Nano+
- DJI Mini 3
- Potensic Atom
These drones are in no particular order (despite the numbering system) and will all offer their own unique experiences when it comes to flying them and utilizing them for photography and video purposes. No matter what direction you decide to go with your drone purchase, I am confident the drone lover in your life will be thrilled with any of these or any of the drones I mention in my previous content about drones for beginners in 2024.
Idea #2: Accessories for Their Current Drone
If the drone enthusiast in your life already has a drone, then you probably have second-hand experience with the many trials and tribulations of drone ownership. Chiefly among them is not having quite enough accessories to make their job abundantly easier. While it is difficult to discern what type of accessories to purchase, the best advice I can give you is to ask your drone enthusiast friend what drone they have before beginning your search. Once you know the brand and model of the drone (be sure to be very specific in what brand and model the drone is), you can then begin down your shopping list of accessory ideas for the aerial technology. While I will refrain from including some specific accessories (as it depends completely on the drone for which you are buying), here are some general ideas for accessories that make a drone pilot’s life much easier:
- Extra Batteries (Specific to Drone)
- Spare Propellers (Specific to Drone)
- ND Camera Filters (Specific to Drone)
- Spare Chargers (Specific to Drone)
- Anti-Collision Lights
- Micro SD Cards
- Carrying Case/Backpack (Specific to Drone)
- Hard Hats for Commercial Drone Pilots
- Safety Vests for Commercial Drone Pilots
A few of those items are linked to products I recommend for the drone pilot in your life and are universally approved for most all drones and drone operations. I guarantee that no matter what level of experience or background the drone enthusiast on your Christmas list possesses, they will absolutely love these accessories as they make life easier and more convenient for them when in the field.
Idea #3: An Opportunity to Grow Their Drone Knowledge

One of my chief beliefs as “The Drone Geek” is to always keep an open mind and a willingness to learn. My family is chalk-full of educators and because of that I firmly believe that education is a foundational pillar of success. That education does not always come in a formal classroom. Education can come from experiences on the job, advice from a mentor, or in a virtual classroom.
If you or your drone pilot are looking to grow a drone knowledge base or are studying to take the Part 107 Initial Knowledge Test, then you may be interested in some of the courses offered by our friends over at Pilot Institute. Check out my recommendations for great courses for any drone pilot to take below:
- Part 107 Made Easy!
- Drone Business Made Easy!
- Drone Waivers Made Easy!
- Shooting for Real Estate
- Drone Flying 101: A Beginner’s Guide
- Drone Maneuvers Mastery
There is no better drone education resource out there than Pilot Institute right now. I could not recommend them more for any drone pilot of any knowledge or experience level. If you or your drone enthusiast takes a course with Pilot Institute, I am certain you will have walked away from that course having learned something new!
Idea #4: A Ticket to a Drone Trade Show in 2025

As I have stated in this article, the drone industry has been growing rapidly over last 6-10 years. As a result, the drone trade show scene has also been incredibly busy with oodles of opportunities for attendees to see the latest and greatest solutions for UAV platforms and technology. A true drone enthusiast may find the experience of attending one of these trade shows incredibly rewarding and informative…but with so many options, which ones should you consider helping them to attend in 2025?
- Commercial UAV | Las Vegas, Nevada
- ElevateUAV with Drone Nerds | Miami, Florida
- International Drone Show | Odense, Denmark
- Consumer Electronics Show (CES) | Las Vegas, Nevada
I have attended three of the four shows outlined on the list above and all of them were well worth the investment of time, effort, and money. I learned so much about new drone technology, made incredible connections within the industry, and really just found personal enrichment doing something so connective and rewarding within my primary field of interest.
No matter what you decide to purchase for yourself or the drone lover in your life, I hope they love it and find it useful. It’s not always easy to know what makes a good gift for somebody who works with such seemingly complicated equipment, so I hope you found this article helpful in your quest for the perfect holiday gift.
